A Little About

A note about my practice philosophy that seeps into my writing and consultations:
I walked the halls of the traditional Registered Dietitian for ten years before I realized that we were not preventing the chronic disease that ravaged the nation. Sure, we were one of the most preventive professions, but few doctors knew about us and, even fewer utilized our services. Furthermore, when our services were used, we were limited in time and scope by an outdated insurance system.
I decided to focus on an integrative approach to dietetics, taking into account all aspects of a person’s environment, psychology, emotions, and metabolism and synthesizing them into a workable list of problem areas that could be tackled by lifestyle change, nutrition, and supplements. This approach yielded far better results than just focusing on diet and a diet prescription given by a doctor with no training in nutrition. I found people losing weight and keeping it off with a cessation in the yo-yo dieting. I found people lowering their lipid levels, increasing exercise, and coming to grips with their emotional ties to food and food-related behavior. I listened to their stories and helped them rewrite their health history.
Integrative and functional nutrition’s goal is to treat the individual through a combination of approaches and getting at the root cause of illness, optimizing the health of those who have it and restoring it to those who don’t. Above all, you learn to listen to the patient, the patient who has lived with their body for a lot longer than you, the practitioner, has.
I now focus on the writing aspect of nutritional care, expounding the effects of nutritional therapy into the realms of everyday life to enhance one's state of well-being and health. I write for newsletters, review sites, corporations and medical professionals who need an authoritative voice. It is with sadness and trepidation that I give up the telenutrition portion of my business, but the focus on writing has been rewarding and healing for me as a health professional and I am hoping I can reach a wider audience through the printed word than through one-on-one consultations.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me through this transition into Nutritional Synergy Wordsmith.
